  • The LOUMARS International School Bilingual Nursery and Primary School complies with the French Education Nationale's Common Core curriculum. LOUMARS International School teachers are also trained in the best learning methods. We keep abreast of international pedagogical innovations, so that we can deliver quality teaching serenely and efficiently. At LOUMARS International School, we believe that the fundamental challenge of education is to train well-rounded, fulfilled individuals, open to others and to changes in the world, who will be able to adapt to all the new situations they encounter. It's this vision that we keep as our compass, day after day, in all the moments your children will share with us at the School.

  • LOUMARS International School is located at quartier Zaïre in Kribi. This private mansion is adjacent to the mosque of carrefour Beilo.

  • At LOUMARS International School, children have access to the toilet whenever they need it. We respect children's rhythms. They may not be "potty trained" when they enter Pre-nursery class. However, if this is the case, we will ask parents to provide pull-up diapers so that removing the diaper becomes natural. We support the children as they mature.

Teaching methods

  • LOUMARS International School has chosen to offer children a bilingual learning environment from an early age. A growing number of recent studies have highlighted the benefits of early language learning, even if the child has not necessarily been immersed in a bilingual environment from birth. LOUMARS International School provides daily interaction with people who speak both languages. This exposure to languages is maintained throughout the school years. We make sure that each child can interact with speakers on a regular basis, so that he or she is not limited to his or her mother tongue, with regular half-group activities. From Class1 onwards, classes are taught in English & French, to maintain a balance and encourage the use of both languages.

  • Of course, integration into LOUMARS International School's classes does not require the child to be bilingual. In fact, LOUMARS International School has chosen to offer children a bilingual learning environment from an early age, enabling them to move on to secondary school, either in a bilingual environment, or in a strictly Anglophone or Francophone environment.

  • At LOUMARS International School, from the Kindergarten section onwards, children have two interlocutors in the classroom on a daily basis, one native English speaker and one native French speaker. We make sure that each child can interact with both speakers on a regular basis, so that he or she is not limited to his or her mother tongue, with regular half-group activities.

Clubs & sports

  • DURING THE SCHOOL PERIOD LOUMARS International School offers kindergarten and primary school children one-hour "after-school" clubs, based on the activities that make up its DNA: Learn by playing. They can also focus on general culture or history. These clubs are available in French & English.

DURING THE HOLIDAYS Our private bilingual school offers bilingual workshops on cultural, artistic and sporting themes, primarily to children from the school, but also to other kindergarten and primary school children from outside the school.

  • Once a child knows how to play, he or she can play sports. It's not so much the sport itself that's important, but the regular practice of physical activity. Playing sports at school promotes healthy, balanced growth. At LOUMARS International School, your children regularly take part in an age-appropriate sporting activity.

  • Early awareness of the arts fosters a creative spirit, a commitment to the school as a whole, and the ability to collaborate and communicate. By building perseverance and a sense of community, arts education also creates citizens who are more involved in their community.

Programs

  • LOUMARS International School believes that the use of well-contextualized digital tools with educational content can be a highly effective learning medium. LOUMARS International School therefore wishes to implement a reasoned use of digital technology at school. It's a complementary tool that children are going to use in any case. So they need to learn how to use it intelligently. Of course, screen time must not be allowed to take away from other activities.

  • It's open every day from 07:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children are supervised by teachers from the school.

  • Exhibitions and activities can be suggested to parents. Parents can also borrow books from LOUMARS International School library.

Language as a powerful asset

  • Mastering two languages can offer greater mental flexibility: thinking skills are enhanced tenfold, and individuals are better able to learn and integrate complex concepts, as well as different cultures and ways of thinking. Bilingualism also makes it easier to speak other languages. Indeed, knowledge of the peculiarities of speech makes it easier to assimilate a third or even fourth language. Finally, bilingualism favors communication with others and tolerance of differences. Bilinguals have greater flexibility in understanding and comparing cultural differences. Their taste for foreign travel will be reinforced.

  • The progress of pupils at a bilingual nursery school can be tracked using a number of tools.

    1. Firstly, teachers at LOUMARS International school observe children's interactions with other children in the classroom. This observation is used to assess the pupils' understanding and use of the target language.

    2. Secondly, a bilingual preschool program can include assessments, such as listening and reading comprehension tests, to evaluate the child's linguistic progress. Thirdly, teachers can create a language portfolio for each child. This contains examples of their work in the foreign language, audio or video recordings of their interactions with other children, and so on. This information provides long-term feedback on the child's progress in learning the target language.

  • Research shows that mother-tongue teaching is an essential factor in inclusion and quality learning, and that it improves learning achievement and school performance. This is crucial, particularly in elementary school, to avoid gaps in knowledge and to increase the speed of learning and comprehension. Above all, mother-tongue-based multilingual education enables all learners to achieve full participation in society.

It fosters mutual understanding and respect for others, and helps preserve the rich cultural and traditional heritage rooted in all the world's languages.
